Frosty day.

Today is one of those perfect winter days; bright blue skies, frosty and oh so cold, but oh so  beautiful!

Just perfect for a walk around the village of Wadenhoe, along side the river Nene in Northamptonshire.
The church of St Michael and All Angels sits on top of a small hill and overlooks the village and river.

A chance too, to spot clumps of tiny, snowdrops.
Who can resist these brave little flowers, poking their delicate heads above the ground in the most inclement of weathers?

We are preparing ourselves for a blast of icy weather and snow coming our way from Siberia.
I think we may be needing lots of bowls of warming soup in the next few days!
This was mushroom soup made the other day when I spotted a box of mushrooms nearing their use by date lurking at the bottom of the fridge.

A recipe using onion and garlic along with the mushrooms and finished with single cream and lots of parsley.

Happy Sunday!

  1. Such a beautiful church with stunning stained glass windows. Also a joy to see the snowdrops. Hopefully this next icy blast is going to miss our little Island.

  2. I'm not a fan of mushrooms, but your soup looks quite delicious, one for my husband definitely. I do love poking around old churches and love that window. The modern style candle holders and daffs make a lovely contrasting display.

  3. Not quite so bright and beautiful out there today. Snow falling here as I type. A bowl of that soup would be very welcome!

  4. Whenever I eat mushrooms, which is not often because I too leave them lurking at the bottom of the fridge, I always wonder why I don't eat them more often. Which recipe did you use? Sounds vg.

    1. Thank you Colleen. I used a recipe from The Covent Garden Soup Company's Book of Soups. The ingredients were : 1/2 onion, 1 clove of garlic, 40g plain flour (to thicken), 700ml vegetable stock, 250g mushrooms, salt and pepper and parsley and single cream to finish. :)
